Designers have a life, I guess. I mean, you can’t just design ALL the time. Well, you could, but you might be insane. Well, for me, at least, I would be going mad. I have several different hobbies that help enrich my life and develop different aspects of my being.
This will be a list of what I do outside of designing. There is no particular order, just things I'm passionate about that will help me flesh out myself to y'all.
Writing
Whether it’s poetry, screenwriting, or essays, I love writing. Not for assignments, but writing is amazing. Sometimes, visual icons and objects can only do so much. Writing can describe abstract ideas and let your imagination go wild, especially screenplay. I have been writing a lot of screenplays and wanting readers to imagine camera shots and emotions of the scenes I make. It makes me remember ideas I thought about unrelated to design.
Film
I am a film nerd. I will be taking a film class next semester, and I have been a part of a film organization on campus for a while now. The colors, the acting, the shot, I geek about that! I have also made some films throughout the years, which you can check out here. I have been a production assistant, an actor, a cinematographer, a lead sound, an editor, a writer, a producer, and a director. I have almost done it all. Being on a film set and watching a film people or you made is a giddy feeling.
Photography
Similar to film, I like taking photos. A snapshot of time and composition is the most appealing part to me. I want to save the moment, especially on trips and places I have visited. It makes me look around my surroundings and find it interesting to document my travels.
Theatre
I have done theater shows in high school and read amazingly that I wished I had put on. Although I haven’t been on stage in a while, I go to theatre shows if I can and act in some films with my friends. Playing someone different from yourself is europhric, and dancing around the stage with an ensemble is lovely. Additionally, I miss helping behind the scenes with background and props.
I recently realized that I might be incorporating some aspects of design principles with my outside work, such as layout, composition, and form. Design is everywhere, and it is fascinating to see how different mediums can be used to create something unique. Even though my outside work is different from my design work, they still make me happy at the end of the day.
